Chi Alpha Sigma announces 2023-24 postgraduate scholarship recipients

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Chi Alpha Sigma is proud to announce that Justin Crawmer of Carleton College and Taylor Roberts of the University of Florida have been selected as the recipients of the Nick Mourouzis Postgraduate Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.

“We are very proud to award this year’s postgraduate scholarships to Justin and Taylor,” Kellen Wells-Mangold, executive director of the National College Athlete Honor Society, said. “They are two tremendous examples of what it means to be a college athlete. We congratulate them on their achievements thus far and look forward to seeing what lies ahead as they move on in their educational journeys.”

Crawmer (Urbandale, Iowa | Waukee) played outside back for the Carleton Knights with whom he earned Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2023. A First Team All-America defender, Crawmer started every game last season for the Knights, helping Carleton reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament while surrendering a program-low six goals for the season. Crawmer also contributed seven assists and three goals on the offensive end of the field. In the classroom, Crawmer maintained a 3.98 grade point average as a biology major at Carleton and was a member of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI), the Carleton Pre-Health Association (CPA), Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), among other academic and community initiatives. Crawmer - who also received the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship last spring - will be headed to the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine this fall in pursuit of his MD.

Roberts (Parkland, Fla.) played the last two women’s golf seasons at the University of Florida after beginning her collegiate career at Florida State University. In her debut season, Roberts appeared in all seven tournaments for the Seminoles, helping FSU secure a program-best ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Roberts competed in nine tournaments in her first season with the Gators in 2022-23 and finished the 2023-24 campaign with a scoring average of 72.5. Off the course, Roberts posted a 3.98 grade point average as an Education Sciences major, earning Academic Honor Roll distinction in both the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Southeastern Conference (SEC). Roberts was also honored by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association with All-American Scholar recognition three times and was selected to the SEC Community Service Team in 2023 after totaling more than 40 hours of community service while volunteering for organizations such as Gators Lunch Buddies and Reading program, Girls on the Run, Project Makeover, and Gators Tracks Wrapping and Delivery. Roberts - who has spent significant time volunteering with mental health nonprofits including The Hidden Opponent and The Crisis Text Line - is pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Development and Counseling at Vanderbilt University.

First awarded during the 2019-20 academic year, the Nick Mourouzis Postgraduate Scholarship is presented to two Chi Alpha Sigma inductees annually. This year’s two $3,500 scholarship recipients were chosen from an impressive field of nominated Chi Alpha Sigma inductees. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must: be Chi Alpha Sigma inductees from an active chapter of the National College Athlete Honor Society; be seeking their postgraduate degree in the immediate upcoming academic year; be enrolled in a full-time program of studies; have exhausted all athletic eligibility prior to starting graduate-level coursework; and be formally nominated by their respective chapter advisor.
